Dr.
Judith Kapustin Katz is a licensed psychologist who provides services
to individuals and organizations in transition. She has worked extensively
in the fields of career management, executive and new employee coaching,
and career transition or transformation. Much of her work has been with
physicians and scientists from academic medical centers and industry,
and with administrators and faculty in institutions of higher education.
Dr. Katz's services
include:
- Career Management
This service assists
individuals to develop a career development and management plan that
fully utilizes their skills and engages their interests. Collaborative
work includes: assessing interests, skills, style, accomplishments;
developing a resume/curriculum vitae that reflects these; developing
a strategic approach to networking and interviewing; and developing
an effective marketing plan to seek and gain new opportunities. Initial
work is best done in person and/or by phone, and usually involves periodic
follow-up coaching in person, by phone or e-mail.
- Executive, New
Employee, or Resident Coaching
Coaching the executive
or newly employed individual involves cooperation of the employee and
management. Determination of critical competencies needed to assure
success is undertaken and an individualized program is developed collaboratively
to plan the steps necessary for the individual to acquire the necessary
skills and knowledge to be successful. This work is comprehensive and
extensive and involves, at minimum, a six-month commitment.
- Career Transition/Transformation
Coaching
Once management
or an individual determines it is time for a career change, coaching
support is provided to help evaluate what direction to pursue. Both
transition and transformation services include a comprehensive assessment
of skills, interests, needs, accomplishments and style. Transition
services assist individuals determine how and where the appropriate
next career step might be taken. Transformation services assist individuals
to change focus and direction, transferring identified core competencies,
skills and abilities to new careers. Work is with individuals, and includes
all of the support services described in the Career Management section
above, as well as counseling in managing change and coaching for entry
into a new position.
Dr. Judith Katz has
been a Senior Consultant with international career management consulting
and outplacement firms and an Educational Consultant at Temple University
School of Medicine for the past ten years. Clients have included students,
residents, clinical and research faculty and administrators in academic
medical institutions, scientists and physicians in the pharmaceutical and
chemical industries, senior faculty and administrators in higher education.
She is a faculty member
for ELAM and the HERS/Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration
at Bryn Mawr College, and has taught at AAMC's Professional Development
Seminar for Junior Women Faculty.
Dr. Katz was Dean of
Students at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Director of Career Planning
and Placement at Swarthmore College, Counselor at Wharton's Graduate Career
Development and Placement Office, and Co-Founder andCo -Director of Options
for Women, a community based career counseling service. She has published,
lectured and conducted workshops on a wide variety of topics in the area
of career management, managing change and life/work planning.
Dr. Katz received her
A.B. in psychology from Temple University, her M.A. in psychology from
the University of Michigan, and her Ed.D. in counseling psychology from
the University of Pennsylvania.
