Dr. Walters provides executive leadership coaching, and strategic career planning to individuals; and organizational development and strategic planning consulting services. He works exclusively with senior executives in Fortune 500 companies, and with senior administrators and faculty in academic health centers.

Dr. Walters enhances individual executive effectiveness, and that of a senior leadership team, through his Leadership Development services including:

  • Competencies Assessment -- using a variety of validated instruments to gauge strength in those traits and skills needed for competitive success in today's world, and tomorrow's.

  • Executive Coaching and Team Building, a "world of work" approach -- not ropes and games -- to achieve breakthrough performance improvements. We at Leadership Strategies use a face-to-face coaching approach, building a high level of confidentiality, honest problem sharing/solving, and a focus on results -- both professional and personal. Dr. Walters enhances an organization's effectiveness through his Organizational Development services including:

  • Strategic Planning and Change Management -- using the 10-step systems-thinking approach pioneered by the internationally respected Centre for Strategic Management (with whom he is affiliated).

  • Program Evaluation -- employing both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze work processes and outcomes in real-time for immediate improvement.

In the near-three decades prior to joining Leadership Strategies and the ELAM Consulting Alliance, Jim had served in a variety of management and organizational development roles. These include his being Senior Research Director at the University City Science Center, affiliated with Philadelphia's major universities; COO of a large, tri-state nonprofit organization in metro-Philadelphia; Vice President for Quality Assurance and Training for SpectaGuard, the national security firm based in Philadelphia. His most recent corporate position was with the Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation (then Pennsylvania's largest health care system) where he was Senior Director of Human Resource Development. In that capacity, as in his SpectaGuard experience, he was responsible for the development and delivery of executive, management, and non-clinical professional development.

Jim holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in social psychology from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in social anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is among the few executive coaches holding the PCC certification of professional coach from the International Coach Federation, that profession's certifying body.
